Review of Bright (2017) by George S — 04 Jan 2018
There are many times critics are completely out of touch with what the audience wants. This is one of those times they are and the people who pay them should wonder why they are. Bright is a fresh twist on the whole buddy-cop themed movie with a setting that refreshingly unique; a modern-day fantasy world with magic, orcs and elves playing alongside car chases and guns.
The movie's real charm is in the "this is just how it is" attitude it takes with this setting as well. It's a wholly unexplored setting as far as movies go, and one I hope to see more of in the future.
Maybe with a little luck, we'll even see this setting approaching that of Shadowrun. My biggest disappointment with Bright was that it seemed to end a bit prematurely. Would love to see a sequal or even just another movie set in this world.
If you're listening Netflix, shut up and take my money.
