Review of Bright (2017) by Dctraveler88 — 22 Dec 2017
Bright is not Citizen Kane or Casablanca. It does not break new ground in the history of cinema. However, if you approach this movie with the goal of being entertained then it does that in spades. New cop vs old veteran cop vs the world is something already done.
New cop vs old veteran cop vs the world with magic and fantasy characters is something new. This movie was entertaining and more than worth the 2 hr run time on it. Will Smith is a fun actor to watch and his Orc partner Joel Edgerton was definitely an entertaining duo to watch as they interact onscreen.
There will be cliches and one liners but this movies fresh approach make them forgivable and enjoyable. The blending of Dungeons and Dragons and War Craft along with movie themes from Dirty Harry and Lethal Weapon is a blast of freshness in a movie industry that has become increasingly stagnant and formulaic in their approach to creating guaranteed moneymakers.
The creativity and imagination used in this movie is something I enjoyed immensely with the relatively seamless blending of modern and fantasy something that any nerd would enjoy. I enjoyed this movie a lot and hope to see more of this from Netflix in the future.
