Review of Bright (2017) by Reidaian — 25 Dec 2017
No spoilers. Food for thought. What a coincidence that a distinctly average blockbuster movie releasing directly on an easily accessible consumer platform, where critic reviews aren't really relevant because anyone can turn it off after 15 minutes if they don't like it with no loss of money, is getting absolutely destroyed by mainstream media. Just saying. Meanwhile, a distinctly average and seriously unimpressive Hollywood big name franchise release is getting praised as the new definition of storytelling. Just saying.
Politics aside, and make no mistake, the critic reviews for this movie are mostly politics, Bright is a decent movie that manages to be entertaining. Is it Oscar material? Hell no. It's a competent movie, with high budget effects that at least for me managed to stay enjoyable from start to finish. It did not pretend to be smarter than it looks, and there are definitely things to criticize here, but under no circumstances does this movie deserve the bashing it is getting from critics. I find the incredibly transparent politics and hypocrisy from some "big name" reviewers to be absolutely disgusting.
