Review of Bright (2017) by Santiago C — 23 Dec 2017
This film is probably the most disapointing film i've ever seen. it had promise with a great idea, great actor, a ok script and just a bad director. it wasn´t going to be a masterpiece but at least it was going to be interesting and fun.
but somewhere in the transition from page to screen it's ruined. audience let's admit that if a movie is entretaining it doesn't mean it's good(and because critics hate your favorite movie it doen't mean they are assholes).
yes, it has great acting from part of will smith (who has played himself for the last 20 years) and from Joel Edgerton, probably the best character of the film and the only 4 dimentional character with real development in the film.
also I have to point out that some of the action sequences were interesting at least and the special efects were great in this movie. but the sad thing is that all of those good thing can't save this movie.
it has b-movie dialouge, is full of cliches, with repetitive and forced humor, that tries too hard to show it's social comentary, with an awful mix of bloody cop drama and ligthearted fantasy, with 90% of the characters being bland, copy-paste, cliched and one-dimetionalwith no real porpouse what so ever, just made to fill this world with the 10% being the two leads.
the directing and cinematography are mediocre, the editing is a disaster, the film looks ugly and the film doesn´t explore at its fullest it´s ideals and ficticious world. oh and the ending is the worst hinting for a sequel i've ever seen.
I have to be in the side of the critics this time because truly it had potential but it's lost in translation, wich is a sad thing to say. at lest the first 10 minutes were engaging.
