Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Cecilia O — 05 Apr 2008
A moody, subtle, and psychologically detailed love story. Swirling piano music, clipped and brisk voiceover, and billowing steam from the train occupy nearly every scene; Brief Encounter is in a world of its own.
The ending is one of the most heart-wrenching scenes ever filmed. A sublime, restrained tear-jerker.
