Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Kelly F — 20 Jul 2010
Lean presents love as an uncontrollable outcome of the government of emotions over reason. Contrary to more common modern standards, unfaithfulness resides in the instinct of the human being and makes no distinction between genres. A flawlessly written screenplay allows the extraordinary acting capabilities of an actress like Celia Johnson to arise above the horizon of cinema history, resulting in wonderful internal soliloquies and a haunting stream of consciousness... or should we say stream of unconsciousness and confusion. A beautiful cinematography, moments worth being considered among the great moments of literature, attrezzos falling in love and empathizing with an unstable female persona. Exquisite.
100/100.
