Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Russell T — 20 Oct 2007
The performance of Celia Johnson, with so much work done by her large eyes during the voice-overs, shows what a great actress she was. The pain of not being able to say goodbye -- but perhaps it was easier the way it did happen, interrupted by that annoying gossip.
If not for her they might have stayed in the waiting room forever. Everything about the film works for me. I always lose a tear at the end, when Fred finally notices Laura's pain and thanks her for coming back to him.
