Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Stewart F — 25 Oct 2007
It may seem dated now, but if you don't look at the story from today's POV, this is a powerful story of forbidden love that ultimately is scuppered by honour and duty before it can be consumated. Written by Noel Coward, it is often seen as an allegory of homosexual love.
The icing on the cake is the liberal use of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto in the soundtrack.
