Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Peter M — 31 Dec 2008
From my favourite director David Lean comes a heart-wrenching love-story more about what was NOT done, or said, but expressed in lingering looks, and misty eyes. A classic melodrama made and shot beautifully in black & white, with understated perfromances by the leads, especially Lean's wife Celia Johnson, who was nominated for an Oscar. The story becomes more moving in the very final scene.
Made in 1943, not 1998 (date of re-issue).
