Review of Brief Encounter (1945) by Ice R — 18 Aug 2009
Robert Krasker's rich noirish photography helps show the darker side of this secret love affair. Celia Johnson's narration is sometimes effective, sometimes superfluous, but always integrated seamlessly into the sophisticated sound mix.
Under David Lean's careful direction, the film never wanders into the stagey territory of its source material. It is indeed a wonderful British melodrama.
