Review of Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) by Keri-Anne D — 17 Sep 2016
After a series of reboots and sequels this year which have been disappointing to say the least (Independence day: Resurgence, Zoolander 2) Its fair to say I had extremely low expectations going into Bridget Jones's Baby.
Not only is it 12 years since the average sequel but Renee Zellweger has been in hiding since The Edge of Reason. Therefore Bridget Jones's Baby is a great surprise returning to its true form and better than the sequel.
Renee Zellweger is quite clearly back playing the role she was born to play and its great to see Colin Firth back as the charming Mark Darcy. Although its a shame that Hugh Grant did not return the addition of Patrick Dempsey more than makes up for that with a charming charismatic performance different enough from Mark to create a nice contrast between the two men in Bridget's life.
Although slightly predictable at points a great supporting cast, in particular the addition of Sarah Solemani as Bridget's work colleague and friend and constant laughs thorughout with some great little cameos made Bridget Jones's Baby a really funny romantic comedy and is arguably the best sequel we have gotten so far in 2016.
Overall score 7.5/10.
