Review of Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) by Oliver M — 31 Aug 2016

The film is about woman (who to me seemed a bit of an airhead who somehow still managed to have a rather important position at a television studio, I think she is producer) who needs to have a break and so her friend takes her to a music festival. There she has a good time and ends up sleeping with some random guy that she finds attractive.

A few days after, or was it more like a week, at a Christening she sees a man with whom she had a history with... the meeting is awkward. Nonetheless, she dances and has a good time and he makes it obvious to her that he is interested in her, so in the end, she has a good time and ends up sleeping with the guy that she still finds attractive.

After some time she notices that she is gaining weight and discoverers that she is pregnant. There are two potential fathers, and as the mother was scared to have an amniocentesis no one knows who it really is, thus both men want to be involved and help out. That is the whole story basically.

I have no idea what both men find attractive in her character. Although I suppose she was relatable character, she has her measure of awkward mishaps and no one is perfect. However I did not find the story interesting, it was predictable, I did not see any romance in it but it worked as comedy rather well.

I will add a star to what really made it for me, the comedy and the music; special mention, the hipsters with the curly moustaches, the references to memes, and various other references that truly placed the film in the present day and age. Oh yes and of course the bits of bizarre British humour, featuring butts.

Plus, Emma Thompson was wonderful.
