Review of Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) by Matt L — 17 Sep 2016
Bridget Jones' Baby moves away from the annoying silliness of the second one, and this time Bridget is a generally more mature and logical character. However, as a result, the film struggles for laughs and spends a lot of time in more serious thought than a Bridget Jones film would be expected to have. The 122 minute run time is about 22 minutes more than you'd expect.
But the film is fairly well written in parts, treating the characters as real people, all except Patrick Dempsey, who is replacing Hugh Grant, is less realistic and somewhat inconsistent.
The film opens and closes with a Hugh Grant reference that seems to be either there simply as a reference for reference sake, or as a way of suggesting a fourth film might occur.
