Review of Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) by Raveena J — 14 Jun 2008
Why does this movie have a bad rep? I've heard a lot of feedback about it being nothing more than a repeat of the original, but that, my friends, is a lie. To people who loved the first film, it's just like a second slice of cake, and one that doesn't make you feel bloated. I know that I fell in love with Bridget in the first film, and I was more than happy to see her story continued in the second one. I think the real strength in this story is the characters and their relationships with each other- and actually, in retrospect, this is sort of a repeat, but it was a repeat I was happy to watch because it wasn't EXACTLY the same- all three characters became a little more complex- and I personally can't get enough of Firth or Grant. To me, Grant comes out on top at the end of this for playing his character so devilishly well...just like Bridget, we fall for him even knowing full-well that he's just bad news. We even root for him...his hotness probably has a factor in this, but I digress.
My only complaint was that the soundtrack was a tad ridiculous in some parts. "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" during a man fight in a fountain? Not so much. But if they ever make a third one, I'm totally on board.
