Review of Bridge to Terabithia (2007) by Tania M — 19 Oct 2011
Most films made for children and teenagers tend to be sticky and so thick with sweetness that it gags you. But here we have something that is truly magical.
What I loved is how it does not give you mythical creatures and goblins and gouls and beasties right in your face, it makes you imagine it yourself. For moments in this film I could almost see the inhabitants of Terabithia in my own living room.
It was also a great adaptation of the book, and here most films fail desperately.
The effects and directing were unconventional and therefore supperb.
AnnaSophia Robb was a beacon in this, it is some of her best work to date. I think it's safe to say that we could expect great things from this young girl.
As for the caracter of Jesse, he was good, but he was completely in Robb's shadow. I wanted a stronger lead from him.
Such a beautifull tale, it takes you on a journey and makes your heart grow with emotion. It grasps the raw magnitude of a child's imagination and how heartache and loss can make you stronger. It comes to life in a way that I would never have though possible.
Very believable. Utterly beautifull.
