Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by K Nife C — 29 Mar 2016
Tom Hanks is a great actor. I think he's awesome in this movie. He's really got the middle-aged to elderly white man role down. This film is a dramatized historical piece, so, for the most part, it is inspired by true events.
The plot concerns the infamous hostage exchange between the US and the Soviets after they shot down one of our spy planes at the height of the cold war. It is written by the Coen brothers BUT Spielberg directs it, so it's kind of a mash up.
There's the typical wit and character style of the Coens, plus the Spielbergian sense of grandeur and contrived poignance that drags the movie a bit. Don't forget scenes of people looking at things! And I cried in parts, probably because I was drunk.
