Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Tom H — 30 Mar 2016
Once again, Steven Spielberg had the timely instinct to throw a movie on the market that picks up on the mood of the times by dealing with things historical. He does point out that the US has always been selective in interpreting its laws and Constitution.
Sometimes the interpretations go awry and we end up dealing with people like Sen. McCarthy, Gov. Wallace or the current assortment of GOP candidates. Thankfully however, he focusses on a lone wolf who does the right, American thing.
And that is my only contention with this movie: it's a tad too slick and Hollywood. I would like to have seen Tom Hanks' character more developed. But this is nitpicking. Mark Rylance shines. Bottom line: Solid all around.
