Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Diego L — 01 Apr 2016
Seem to be flying in the face of critical acclaim here. It's a good film with fine acting, plot, sets, editing, cinematography, but evades greatness with some disappointing script and direction, especially in the final act where you get a familiar Spielberg payoff riff but without the requisite emotional impact (thinking Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan).
In the closing moments It's as if the actors have no space to invest as they trip out their smart plot and dialogue. Really dissapointed as I love Spielbergs work. It's not a spy movie so maybe not a wholly fair comparison, but a pale shadow of Alfredsson's underrated Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in all respects with the exception of Mark Rylands Oscar winning performance.
