Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Carlos Z — 20 Apr 2016
Solid Spielberg Cold War movie about a lawyer who handles insurance cases who gets thrown into the world of espionage when he is asked to represent an alleged Russian spy, and ends up negotiating a complex hostage exchange.
As per usual, Spielberg knows how to direct, Tom Hanks knows how to carry a movie, and having the script worked on by the Coen Brothers certainly helps elevate things. It is a decent movie, looks great, tells an intriguing story, and is fine dramatic entertainment.
Not the best movie for any of the major players involved, but it is in no way a bad movie, or even really mediocre. Spielberg is a stalwart, some may criticize, but for the most part the man knows how to make a movie.
