Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Odjento — 12 Dec 2015
Bridge of Spies exactly why we love a Spielberg/Hanks combo. This cold war thriller is perfectly paced, with great witty dialogue thanks to the mastery of the Coen Brothers and incredible acting from Hanks and Rylance. Spielberg takes some great shots in this film, really capturing the essence of the cold war time period; but he does make a few choices that I get annoyed with.
First off, the lens flare in this film seems unneeded and forced upon the viewer almost as badly as a JJ Abrams Star Trek film, and Spielberg picked a far too sappy ending to what could’ve been left earlier and not made so forcefully happy towards the end.
Also, whilst Hanks chemistry with Rylance is brilliant, his chemistry with his wife in the film is not so brilliant. They just don’t seem natural together.
This is a solid, well-paced and extremely well written thriller and is definitely one people should go see. The dialogue is definitely what keeps it flowing, so big props to Coen Brothers.
