Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Tonygreen — 12 Feb 2016
Nice to see Hollywood still occasionally caters to grown-ups. There is real attention to detail in sets, costuming etc. that completely places the action in the paranoic reds-under-the-beds late 1950s and early '60s.
The pace ramps up in the second half to make for an excellent thriller, about characters you care about. There is also a great touch of understated pathos to character development. A lot of this movie is understated - done with great craft rather than big signposts - the anarchic and desperate atmosphere of East Berlin is particularly well done.
A great cast, all playing to their strengths. recommended viewing.
