Competent and technically excellent but ultimately uninspiring. It's high rating and Oscar recognition are unwarranted. I think the subject matter is the main reason. Anti Soviet recent history just doesn't excite.
Hanks never makes a bad movie but he does occasionally do bland, and Bridge of Spies is bland.
