Review of Bridge of Spies (2015) by Nehemiah — 10 Mar 2019
This is probably my favorite Spielberg movie which is saying a lot because Super 8 exists. This film showcases a point in time where the concept of free American was challenged by the Cold War. Sir Mark Rylance plays a held captive by the American government.
He portrays a cool confidence that wins you over even though he's imprisoned as a spy. Tom Hanks plays a hard-working lawyer; it is through his character that moral truths are put to question. You see him deal with these as he works not only for justice in his country's legal system but also for that of a man from the Soviet Union.
This comes at the cost of his family's stability. What's great about this film is that it does show the side of the war that existed in the Soviet Union.
