After doing many of supporting and minor roles, Kristen Wiig finally got a lead role in this 2011 film Bridesmaids. I thought that she would be doing supporting roles for the rest of her big screen career. Itâ(TM)s unfortunate that she got the lead role on this movie since it was not the greatest one Iâ(TM)ve ever seen. Much like many other comedians on the big screen their real humor isnâ(TM)t captured like it is on say Saturday Night Live or one of their Stand Upâ(TM)s. Although the movie wasnâ(TM)t four stars material, Kristen Wiig did a great job in her first movie as the lead role.

Bridesmaids starts off with Annie (Kristen Wiig) hitting what she thinks is rock bottom. Even worse, her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) lets her know that she just got engaged to a really wealthy man and her life is heading up while her life is heading down. Being a third string booty call and a failed bakery owner, Annieâ(TM)s life couldnâ(TM)t be any tougher; until she gets asked to be Lillianâ(TM)s maid of honor. Annie, having a low paying job, has a tough time being the maid of honor because all the other bridesmaids are very affluent. From planning the bachelorette party and getting fitted in their dresses to Annie finding love (sort of) and really going crazy. This movie has a lot of unneeded jokes and when the jokes were good they didnâ(TM)t know when to stop.

The "Bridesmaids" and Bride out to lunch.

This movie is being marketed as The Hangover but with girls, which it clearly is not. In The Hangover there are men and they are in Las Vegas, but in Bridesmaids they are women and they are in Milwaukee. Comparing The Hangover to Bridesmaids is like comparing a porcupine to a naked mole rat; the only thing that is similar is that both movies are dealing with a marriage and a lot of things going awry. Despite the differences Bridesmaids was a good movie only with a couple of problems.

The main problem with this film was that the jokes that were funny became unfunny when they didnâ(TM)t know when to end and even worse when they didnâ(TM)t know where the line was that they shouldnâ(TM)t cross. What I mean is when a movie has to resort to having a lady in a dress taking a crap in the middle of the street just for a laugh; you know the movie was desperate. Even though the movie was a little desperate for some laughs, they still got quite a few out of me. I enjoyed this movie and I would give this film a mild recommendation, but donâ(TM)t go see it with your parents.
