Review of Bridesmaids (2011) by Natalie G — 18 Feb 2013
A really smart estrogen-filled comedy that doesn't get to Las Vegas (i agree with what the other critics are saying). It's really outrageously funny (and actually borderlines on gross but they skillfully toe the line) with a cast of the most interesting characters.
Okay maybe not really the most interesting because I think Annie and Helen in particular needed more character developments. A lot of questions were left unanswered with regards to Annie especially to her love of baking.
We really don't get to see a lot of things and you can't quite point out the focal point of the movie. Is it really all about Annie? The Bridesmaids? The friendship of Annie and Lillian? But I guess that's the charm of the movie.
Everything felt so real (maybe just not the gross parts) and the dialogue was really so honest. I really could believe that these were real people (except maybe Helen) and I could practically bump into a Lilian or an Annie in real life.
Melissa McCarthy is simply hilarious as Megan and she steals the show in every scene she's in XD I do have a gripe though at how some of the issues were resolved (I wasn't that particularly happy during the scene between Megan and Annie but it was really hilarious) and that's why I can't give this a full 5 star rating.
This is the kind of movie which you'd want to watch again and again though :).
