Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Joanne G — 23 Aug 2008
This looked intriguing, but it was annoyingly long. I should have just waited to rent it! Spent too much time setting up character relationship (which left me confused as to Charles' sexual orientation; was he aware of what he was doing??) instead of concentrating on the real reason behind the "obession"--Brideshead.
This slowly became apparent to me, but it should have been more explicit; I just don't think he purposely used the family. Also, the Catholic theme was interesting, but I'm not sure how sure the writer was of this.
It seemed like the movie couldn't decide what theme it wanted to tackle. That was the biggest problem, besides the length! Not Emma Thompson's best. She was better in "Love Actually." But beautiful scenery, clothes, cars and soundtrack.
