Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Chloe D — 04 Oct 2008
LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED this film. I'm getting the impression that opinions on it are very divided and your thoughts on the film very much depend on if you have watched it fresh, if you love the book and if you loved the TV adaptation from the 1980s.
This was my first visit to Brideshead and I thought it was utterly amazing.
The casting was spot on - Matthew Goode and Hayley Atwell are such shiny British stars at the moment and they worked perfectly together .. add in some Emma Thompson and a director born in Norwich and you have the perfect British film!
It is beautifully shot, the house is STUNNING and I've now added Oxford to my places to visit list.
I found the issue of religion in the film so so interesting, the way it controls both Sebastian and Julia through their Mother and how Charles simply can't understand them. SO SO many wonderfully passionate scenes, it got me thinking and really moved me.
