Poor boy is seduced by wealthy family, and dedicates his life to become part of it, destroying himself and others on the way.
OR.
Story of human weakness, of people who need guide and rules and textbook for life.
It's hard to find out who should you blame for fall of this family - Charles or religion, this obscurity adds complexity to human relations in the movie.
