Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Jessica E — 27 Aug 2008
It is always hard to adapt a novel that is filled with so much story. The movie is well done, but, in its fearlessness to uphold the quiet moments, the viewers suffer. The love triangle that is almost nonexistent in the book is put on display here without holding back on the sexual undertones.
Great performances and complicated themes. "Brideshead" certainly transports you to another time but much like the book, you are never too sure what the story is completely about. Religion? Friendship? Alcoholism? Family? Betrayal? One thing is for sure, riches attract us all and so does longing for change but if we get so swept up in it, we won't ever be able to escape.
I liked it better than "Atonement".
