Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Michael O — 13 Sep 2008
"Brideshead Revisited" is a picturesque movie that is carried along in a page after page manner by Julian Jarrold's disciplined direction. Like most disciplinarians, the camera and the dialogue tells us what we're supposed to be seeing even if it isn't what's on the screen. We have no choice.
The character of Charles kisses a woman or is accosted by his drunken gay lover and he's labeled hungry and greedy and a traitor.
It's funny, eventually he starts thinking it himself. There really is no hope for individual reason in this movie, there's too much dictation. The house if magnificent however and wow isn't Venice one of the greatest cinematic locations ever?
