Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Blake G — 04 Oct 2008
The art design, the costumes, the writing, and the score all help to deliver a beautifully crafted film. Never having read the book, the homoeroticism was uncomfortably surprising, and almost lead to my departure.
However, it was the intense acting, especially Emma Thompson portrayal as a pinched, prude Catholic matriarch that sustained me. Extending the film could have benefited the development of the film's character development as well as the Catholic symbolism.
Highly enjoyable (once you get past the homoeroticism) and worth seeing.
