Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Mikael K — 14 Feb 2009
This movie was fabulous. It was as dreamy and romantic as the PBS version (a 13 hour serial from decades ago that starred Jeremy Irons and Anthony Andrews.) This version was compact, an express version.
I got everything I wanted and I got it faster than having to watch the longer version. I found it very satisfying. The homoerotic theme was obvious, not as subtle as in the previous version. But it was romantic, a great love story, a compelling extraordinary love story that will break your heart like Brokeback mountain.
The actor who played Charles Ryder was perfect. He was handsome and perfect in every scene. The actor who played Sabastian was good, but not as beautiful as Anthony Andrews...why didn't they cast a blond in that role? I was disappointed in that.
But he was good. The first 10 minutes move slowly, but you will be sucked in as soon as Charles arrives at University. It is about religion, sexuality, love, family....you must see it....I loved it!
