Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Mike E — 20 Feb 2009
What looked like a really good period drama fell flat for me. Completely unengaging. I havent read the book but it seems this adaptation of it leaves far too much out - Madam Marchmain doesnt seem nearly as bad as her children make out and the attraction between Charles and Julia isnt brought to the screen IMO. Their love scene is so passionate yet all their encounters leading up to it seem nothing more than a normal attraction or interest.
All that said the costumes and set design go above and beyond and Thompson is good as always. But this was slow and a waste of time.
