Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Mariah J — 08 May 2009
After reading some reviews online, I was getting kinda worried that I wouldn't like it. Thank goodness I was wrong and my expectations were met. I already had the miniseries on hold and the book sitting from the library waiting for me to read and now I can't wait to get to them.
It may start off a little slow, but so do most books/movies based off of books I think. This is probably b/c if they were good enough books to be turned into movies, it means they had some good characters and character developments which means dialogue.
But anyways, the acting was excellent. Matthew is one of my favorite actors and he was brilliant (and hot) in this as usual, but I have to say that Ben Whishaw (Sebastian) really stole the scenes he was in and you missed him when he wasn't there.
For the little part she had, Emma Thompson proves why she's one of the best actors of her generation. The only side thing I would say is that I watched the deleted scenes and I felt that "The Slap" and "He's Dying" should have been left in.
Other than that, the movie was excellent and I definitely recommend it to anyone who loves period pieces. Other people probably wouldn't like it or appreciate it.
