Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by Allan K — 12 May 2009
The 2008 Brideshead is a far from perfect adaptation of the novel, but it's beautifully shot and the cast in cludes some of the most talented actors and actresses around. I don't think the screenplay had the delicate, decadent and sombre, pacing of the book, and some of the main themes seemed lost. However, as a film rather than an adaptation, I liked it, and I did like some scenes as adaptation.
In my opinion, it's worth seeing just for the beautiful few minutes showing Charles and Sebastian's summer at Brideshead. The music, the light, the silent expression of the relationship between them... Both Matthew Goode and Ben Whishaw are wonderful in their roles; Whishaw verges on perfect. Charles and Sebastian contra mundum!
