Review of Brideshead Revisited (2008) by William M — 28 Dec 2010
I'm a little indifferent on how to rate this film at the moment cause I guess I like comedies mostly and this was a drama or something other than a comedy I'll say. It did have good acting in it and had a few recognizable names in it, even though it is a British production. And having seen some of the extras, I will say that the house itself, Brideshead, is magnificent. Although Brideshead is really called Castle Howard I think, it was a very nice estate, the house and land surrounding it.
As for the story, a young man off to college named Charles has a chance meeting with a young man named Sebastian, who comes from a privileged family. But he has a troubled family relationship and tends to drink to lessen the blow to himself. Sebastian's mother is quite religious and his father is separated from his mother, partly because of her religious beliefs. Charles does end up meeting Sebastian's family, including Sebastian's sister, and stays with them for awhile. Although I should add that Charles himself does not come from an influential family like Sebastian, nor is he very religious either.
Interesting story nonetheless I'd say.
