Bride Wars is a film that is almost like Candice Bergen's botox. You are first intrigued by it, then confused, and then disgusted; as something that had the potential to be so wonderful changed into something so average.

Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson play best friends, who ever since their first visit to the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan, have wanted an expensive over priced wedding. When their upper-class wedding planner Marian St Clair (Bergen) books the weddings on the same days; the friendship is tested and their most important calendar date is one of complete disaster.

Despite a week script to work with, I thought the performance given by Hathaway made the film slightly enjoyable. She brought some energy to a rather one dimensional caricature or a bride.

Candice Bergen plays a good role as the over the top wedding planner. The role isn't as well written as a typical Bergen role but is still enjoyable to watch her after she left Boston Legal.

Hudson becomes a second rate version of her iconic mother Goldie Hawn. She overacts, which doesn't amuse me what so ever as it shows that the actor feels superior to the screenplay and that they are trying to be funny. If there is one lesson Hudson can take from her parents are that you can be funny without desperately trying to be.

What was the problem with having the weddings on the same day? Anyway, wouldn't you have your secretary amend the problem straight after it occurred? Things don't add up in this poor excuse for a laugh, and it is too predictable for someone with an IQ over 80. Having them both due for their baby on the same day aswell? Come on!

Like examining a brainless beauty, the film attempts to find laughs in a all too common area of comedy; slapstick. While few performances deliver, many do not, and end up being as dull as the entire film.
