Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Schweí Ü — 05 Oct 2007
James Whale continues the story of Frankenstein and his monster with this sequel, which is just as stylish and just as creepy as the 1931 original. It's a little campier, a little more over-the-top, and noticeably more "popular" (with a "what next? / when's the sequel?" ending that any of today's franchises would be proud of).
Admittedly, the story's not as hokey as I thought it would be. The Bride herself only appears onscreen for 15 minutes or so. And the entire story is introduced by Mary Shelley and Byron in their best British stage accents.
I still like the original best, but it's no wonder this one got so much attention.
