Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Amicus F — 07 Mar 2009
The Godfather 2 is argued as the best and more enjoyable sequel to an original, yet the same can be said about The Bride of Frankenstein, one of the greatest horror films ever made with a dash of dark humour that adds a great deal to ones enjoyment.
Ernest Thesiger's Dr. Pretorius is to an acquired taste, but I think he is hysterical. Karloff gets some extra range as the monster in not only showing happiness and compassion, but sadness and love.
The Bride's rejection of the monster is a very sad moment that adds much to the sympathetic feel you already have for him. Karloff is perfect here.
