Review of Bride of Frankenstein (1935) by Dave S — 29 Mar 2010
The Bride Of Frankenstein this movie MUST have a Blu Ray release this year the film's 75th Anniversary!!
There are so many things I like about this film , the delightful quirkyness of the whole piece!
They must have had a ball making this movie so many classic performances in one film - Una O'Connor's shrieking bird like creature , Ernest Thesiger's wonderful take on Doctor Pretorious with his waspish effeminacy , Boris Karloff's splendid talking Monster with the famous line : "We Belong Dead!" , Elsa Lanchester's Bride , such an iconic figure! Can you imagine the film without Elsa's performance! Who else could have performed the role with such perfection!!!
Franz Waxman's score is one major reason to see this movie , it's the first great original Horror Movie score , and adds so much to the atmosphere of this major motion picture , like Nosferatu's subtitle A Symphony of Terror!!
I just LOVE Bride's stylised expressionistic sets , the forest sequences , the laboratory with the famous Kenneth Strickfaden machinery which makes the movie - this film deserves a book all to itself it's such a stylish treat!
