Review of Bride of Chucky (1998) by Jeremy S — 10 May 2010
Bride of Chucky (1998) -- [6.0] -- If you enjoy cornball horror, this movie is surprisingly entertaining. Jennifer Tilly is just what the ailing franchise needed. The relationship between Tilly's Tiffany doll and Chucky is interesting and, gosh darn it, even a little complicated.
They want to make babies, but they also want to kill each other. What's a pair of dolls to do? While the credit probably doesn't do them any favors, the human cast are pretty good, too. Katherine Heigl and Nick Stabile are a cute, engaging couple, and even the freaky Alexis Arquette is put to good use.
Director Ronny Yu strikes the right tone, following in the footsteps of James Whale's "Bride of Frankenstein" in more ways than one. There's a doozie of an ending, too. "Bride of Chucky" is irreverent, good bloody fun.
