Review of Bride of Chucky (1998) by Robin M — 29 Oct 2010
"The honeymoon's gonna be killer!".
'Bride of Chucky' is the third sequel to the Child's Play franchise featuring Chucky, the murderous doll. It was very wise not to label it 'Child's Play 4' because 'Bride of Chucky' stands out on its own, and is just as good a movie as the first 'Child's Play'. Not only is this movie better than the other sequels, but it chooses not to bring them up in reference. (Chucky himself says at one point that if his life story were a movie "it would take about three or four sequels to do justice".) The movie stays true to its roots and writer Don Mancini is able to take our pint-sized character into another realm: 'Bride of Chucky' plays more like a sitcom than an actual horror film.
The premise was undeniably inspired by the 1935 classic 'The Bride of Frankenstein', where the Monster had a mate. So it becomes clear Chucky (whose real name was Charles Lee Ray) had a girlfriend prior to the events in the first film. [Review not yet finished].
