Review of Bride of Chucky (1998) by Michael G — 22 Oct 2008
Chucky hasn't lost it yet; and neither has his long suffering bride. Brad Dourif and Jennifer Tilly are sublime in probably the best Chucky film there is. Gothic, satirical and self parodying, it's both gory as fuck, and laugh out loud funny.
The allusions they both make are astounding too; when Chucky's Bride asks how they became dolls, he replies that it is a long story, and that if it were a movie it would take 3 to 4 sequels to do it justice. A guy gets killed resembling Pinhead, and in another scene Freddy Krueger's mask can be seen. Shot with sly pokes at horror culture, sharp acerbic wit and genuinely creepy moments, you'll be engrossed by the tale of the two, on their search for human bodies. Never, and I mean never have I found a film with so many subtle digs not only at other movies, but as a self parody as well. Absolutely fantastic - the best of the best!
