Review of Bride of Chucky (1998) by Alex R — 05 Jun 2010
This is the movie that transforms the original Child's Play series, which was a bit funny, into a genuine horror-comedy franchise. I liked the fact how it parodies lots of other horror films, without it looking like a dumb parody film, something more like an unintentional parody. Plus, the fact that it parodies itself is even more hilarious. The cast is great, with two of the hottest actresses: Jennifer Tilly and Katherine Heigl. Jennifer Tilly's image as a goth-style female serial killer is strange in a way that her innocent voice and beauty contradict with the character, and finally when she turns into a doll, she gets a more menacing appearance.
The fact that someone can get to Chucky's soft side is a great plus for his character profile, but nevertheless in the end we see that his goal to him is more important than anything else.
The down side of this film is that we don't see much couple-like interaction between Chucky and Tiffany, which we see more of in Seed of Chucky.
Overall a good movie for true Chucky fans, and probably a good laugh to those less interested in the franchise.
