Review of Bride & Prejudice (2004) by Meherin H — 17 Mar 2009
Making a song and color filled indian adaptation of a classic story does not sound at first to be a horrible idea, but you realize it is when the story is one that relies on subtlties. Granted, it was amusing and they had most of the characters and events from the storyline down, the chemistry between Darcy and Lalita was almost nonexistant. With the little sister who ran of with Wickham, the made her innocent and remorseful, whereas the key aspect of Lydia's character is that she is never sorry for what she does and who she hurts. I guess they did want the good indian family to have a shameful daughter. Also, I was quite disappointed that they made Mr. Darcy an American. What was the point of that?
Overall, it's a fun watch, but not so much if you're a huge fan of Austen's novel.
