Review of Brick Lane (2007) by Gavin S — 02 Mar 2012
Probably the best quote ever created: "My mother always said, if Allah wanted us to ask questions, he would have made us men".
An interesting look at the life of an arranged marriage 'mail-order' wife from the villages of Bangladesh living in London's Brick Lane 'Banglatown'. The story gets a bit confusing, at one part, when it is revealed that Nazneen's sister is a prostitute, I thought Chanu had known about her wifes adultery, but as it turns out he had no idea.
The movie shows the hipocrasy of extremist youth Islam. Karim who changes from a rebellious youth to a fully bearded warrior of Islam sleeps with married women, whom he tries and makes his wife.
