Review of Brick (2006) by Charlie S — 16 Feb 2012
Brick is a great homage to the film noir genre. Given the contemporary setting of high school though, the slick dialogue of the characters takes away from the realism - but that's forgivable because it really is fantastic dialogue.
Brick is very entertaining and unforgivingly complex. You better keep up with the story, because it will not slow down for you. It's fun to watch a younger Joseph Gordon-Levitt and he really went all out for his part.
The characters of the film are very well developed and though you might not remember everyone's name, each one has a certain tick or trait that you remember. I wasn't a big fan of the visual style of the director, but that's just a personal thing.
If you're a fan of noir films, you'll like Brick.
