Review of Brewster McCloud (1971) by Gregory W — 23 Aug 2010
Altman's Brewster McCloud is a muddled, busy mess of a film. It's also a lot of fun. It seems to be full of ideas that never really take off, but it might not even be that. Bud Cort's Brewster lives under the Astrodome, building a set of wings he plans to use to fly away on, that is before he meets Shelly Duvall and gets caught up in human drama.
Brewster wants to be something more than human, as does Sally Kellerman's angelic character, but part of the beauty of being human is living in the here and now and even Brewster with his amazing wings can't escape that.
