Review of Breathless (2009) by Miles S — 10 May 2008
I've never really cared for Godard. I find his films nearly unwatchable, not because they bore, but because they're annoying. I get what he's trying to do, he just forgot to make a good film. This is an experimental film which has stolen the soul of a classic Hollywood noir and transplanted it among the French youth. Any story is there to serve Godard's needs to torture the audience with an incoherent rambling mess with so much cutting it resembles a Truffaut film fed to a lawnmower. Both The 400 Blows and Hiroshima Mon Amour, which were made in the same year as Breathless, are flat-out masterpieces... watch either of them instead of Godard's annoying amateur jump-cutting.
It's really just annoying, and it didn't really deserve my 'abuse'.
