Review of Breathless (2009) by Alex F — 27 Dec 2008
It is a classic because the gender issue, romance mentality and the cinematography aren't found outdated even seen today. Very modern at that time of 60s when these young thugs were born and had their childhood spent in the world wars (maybe the war happened in another world to them, to most, at that time).
The only thing I thought it is outdated is the music. I like the first-person view shots a lot, the dialogue and the non-verbal showed two genders testing, approaching and pushing away each other and they are caught delicately.
Compared to "Before Sunset", an American romance movie on the same scene 30 years later (I saw it just because it was free on TV but I stopped at the middle because it was so neurotic). Breathless is up another level.
